Item Description

An attractive cabinet sized piece of the famed Fluorapatite specimens from the Foote Mine in North Carolina. This robust display specimen features sharp, well-formed, hexagonal crystals with a distinctive soft silvery-pinkish hue measuring up to 7 mm on matrix. I love the pyramidal terminations on the crystals, which is not commonly seen in the species, as Fluorapatite often has flat basal terminations. Some of the crystals are contacted/broken, but the majority of them are in excellent shape with distinct, lustrous, distinct crystal faces. The Fluorapatite specimens from the Foote Mine get largely overlooked, but they are certainly worth adding to any collection of worldwide Apatites, phosphates or minerals from the Southern United States.
From the collection Jack Eaker, and identified by Jason B. Smith.
