Item Description
Fluorapatite is found in a wide range of colors, but most people would agree that purple is rarest and most desirable hue for the species. There are only a handful of places in the world that produce truly excellent purple Apatites, and some of the specimens from Afghanistan would certainly rank in that category. This toenail sized piece is a lovely little display specimen hosting well-formed, tabular, vivid purple colored hexagonal crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm, sitting on Albite matrix. The main crystals are in excellent condition, with no major damage I can find. A showy and eye-catching example of this soon-to-be-classic material from Afghanistan.
