Item Description
An impressive cabinet sized specimen (nearly a large cabinet) of the famed Fluorapatite specimens from the Foote Mine in North Carolina. Fluorapatite is found in a wide range of colors, but I think most people would agree that the most desirable and arguably rare hue is purple. This specimen is filled with well-formed, tabular, hexagonal crystals showing a pleasant purple hue measuring up to 8 mm on matrix. Some of the crystals are contacted, and some have a slight coating, but many of them are pristine and feature excellent, distinct crystal faces. You'd be hard pressed to find another example in this size range loaded with so many crystals on the market right now. The Apatite specimens from the Foote Mine get largely overlooked, but they are certainly worth adding to any collection of worldwide Apatites, phosphates or minerals from the Southern United States. From the collection Jack Eaker, and the accompanying label states that the piece was identified by Jason B. Smith, an expert on Foote Mine minerals.
