Item Description

A classic example of the famous Fluorapatite crystals from Cerro de Mercado, Mexico. This piece features a wonderfully sharp, lustrous, gemmy, euhedral, prismatic, hexagonal crystal of Apatite with the well known slightly greenish yellow color and classic pyramidal termination measuring 5.1 cm (2 inches) on minor matrix. The termination on the Apatite has few little rough spots, but it's in great condition overall. These specimens are not nearly as common on the market as they were about 30 years ago, and are certainly some of the most distinctive crystals of Apatite from any locality in the world. You don't see too many crystals of this size on matrix from this locality, and this piece dates back many decades, as it has a very early catalogue number (#94) from the collection of Rock Currier (1940-2015), the long-time owner of Jewel Tunnel Imports. Rock travelled the world in search of mineral specimens, and built and impressive collection over his lifetime. He was one of the more colorful and unforgettable figures in the mineral world.
