Fluor-uvite-Uvite Series (Tourmaline) (large crystal!)

Perhaps the most well-known minerals to come out of Pompa pit in Brumado, Brazil is are the iconic crystals of what was formerly sold at Uvite Tourmaline. These crystals are now defined as being part of the Fluor-uvite-Uvite series. They are very distinctive due to their highly compressed pyramidal shape, often showing very little prismatic faces. This particular specimen is a very large example of the material, measuring a full 2 inches, with lustrous, sharp, highly lustrous faces and a dark reddish-brown hue. Tiny gemmy, colorless, rhombic crystals of Magnesite can be seen sprinkled over the back of the crystal for a nice touch. The Uvite crystal is doubly-terminated, and nearly a complete "floater". A few minor nicks can be seen, but they are easily forgivable since this is such a very impressive large crystal of this rare Tourmaline. Valued at $2,000. From the collection of Brian Kosnar
