Item Description

Fluor-buergerite is a VERY RARE Tourmaline Group varietal and this outstanding miniature is from the Type Locality in Mexico. Lustrous, chocolate-brown crystals, to 1.3 cm, are aesthetically clustered and scattered on the sculptural, 3-dimensional, mounded rhyolite matrix. These came from a ONE-TIME FIND in the 1960s by a miner who brought them to Tucson for sale. He died shortly thereafter, and to my knowledge nobody has yet rediscovered his exact locality. Originally named Buergerite, but was renamed as Fluor-buergerite in 2011. Buergerite was named after Martin Buerger, an MIT mineralogy professor who invented the X-ray precession camera. Ex Bill and Anne Cook Collection. RARE old-time, excellent and seldom on the market today.
