Item Description

The Huanzala Mine of Peru has arguably produced the world's finest pyrites and this specimen is an outstanding example. Striking, mirror-bright, brass-yellow, octahedrons with interesting modified edges and corners comprise this sculptural specimen. The striking large octo is 5.0 cm and is doubly terminated. A couple of crystal faces are sprinkled with tiny sphalerite crystals. The textbook form and intense color and luster are top notch. This is an essentially pristine floater specimen. Contacting is noted, but with virtually no damage, per se. Classic Huanzala material with several excellent display views! Specimens of this fine quality came out in the 1970s and 80s. Ex Robert Whitmore Collection. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!! Valued at $300-400 for quality.
