Gemmy and lustrous, spessartine garnets sheath the doubly terminated floater smoky quartz crystal on this impressive and uncommon 360-degree combination piece from Tongbei. Two generations of spessartines are evident, with the larger rich cinnamon-orange crystals reaching 6 mm. The lustrous, opaque smoky quartz crystals have frosted termination faces. I really like the way the sharp smoky quartz termination are preferentially bare. Nearly pristine. An out-of-sight notch in the spessartines near a termination has gently bruised crystals. A rare and fine example of the combination species.
