Floater botryoidal "grape" Amethyst

We have auctioned some small examples but this is a choice, very fine, colorful large example of the so called grape agates or grape chalcedony from Indonesia. Juicy translucent lavender amethyst botryoids, to 6 mm, comprise this very 3-dimensional, 360-degree, sculptural large floater botryoidal "grape" amethyst from recent finds in Indonesia. These caused a major stir at recent shows and are certainly beautiful, colorful and artistically fine specimens. Botryoidal amethyst is quite rare worldwide. These were first sold as agate or chalcedony. Analysis by Dr. George Rossman at Caltech concluded these should be labeled as amethyst, and not chalcedony or agate as they were for the first years they came out. An artistic and highly representative cabinet example. Essentially pristine, this excellent floater piece has only a bit of clay attached to a few botryoids and only one hard-to-see bruised botryoid was noted.
