Item Description

From the Talpiot neighborhood in Jerusalem, here we have an interesting and unique specimen of Flint which has formed beautiful bands of contrasting grey-brown and off-white color. Now the label accompanying the piece states that the exterior is Chalk, but it's possibly some kind of massive uncrystallized silica / Quartz. You can actually get a bit of color to come through with good backlighting. It shows some interestingly muted fluorescence under UV light as well. The piece was self-collected by a good friend who visited Israel, so I know it's genuine. It's remarkably difficult to find Israeli specimens on the market, and this is a cool piece to add to any worldwide collection.
