Item Description
This is the ONLY specimen that we've seen from this locality. A beautiful, GEMMY, multicolor patch of glowing Fire Opal measuring 1.1 cm is beautifully nestled into the host rock matrix. The Opal is not only nearly 100% WATER CLEAR, but when it's rotated in the light, it shows brilliant electric flashes of blue, teal, green, yellow, gold, orange and red. If you collect California minerals or worldwide Opals, don't miss out on this eye-catching and high quality specimen from this seldom mentioned locality in California. PLEASE NOTE: The label accompanying the piece states that Red Rock Canyon is in San Bernardino County, but the listing on mindat.org states it lies in Kern County. As the two counties border one another, I have to believe that the locality is close to the county line. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#840). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
