Item Description
An old-time, classic and fine combination pseudomorph from the famous mines at Butte. Impressive jackstraw clusters of sharp lustrous charcoal-gray chalcocite pseudomorphs after covellite plates aesthetically crowns the matrix of massive rounded chalcocite on this exceptional combination. Very choice material from the Otto Ray Collection. He was a well-regarded mining engineer and passed away in 1983. He worked in Michigan and Butte in the 1920s and assembled a very fine collection. See his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1732 and read the 2002 Mineralogical Record Butte Special Issue. Valued at $1000-1500 for high quality.
