Item Description

The famous San Jose Mine in Bolivia produced the world's finest Andorite crystals in 2004, along with the momentous discovery was a find of what we initially thought were twinned crystals of Stannite. Virtually all of the pieces from the find were sold as "Stannite", but it turns out that a great many of them are a much rarer dimorph, Ferrokesterite! This species is truly only known from a handful of localities in the world, including the Type Locality at the Cligga Mine in Cornwall, England. The Bolivian specimens are tremendously superior to the Cornish pieces in every sense. They are notably larger with more pronounced crystals (featuring beautiful penetration twins), and some are even associated with Pyrite, Zinkenite and Andorite. PLEASE READ the FULL STORY on these pieces, on Brian Kosnar's website at www.minclassics.com/ferrokesterite.html. It should be noted that the specimens from this disovery are undoubtedly the world's finest Ferrokesterites, and in great limited supply. If you want one of these pieces, do not wait, as this one came out of the ground nearly ten years ago, and virtually nothing has come out of the ground in quite some time. This particular piece is a wonderful miniature association specimen featuring a sharp, pronounced, tetragonal / octahedral penetration twinned crystal of Ferrokesterite measuring 6 mm across. Additionally, and most importantly, the Ferrokesterite is associated with a few needles of the rare sulfosalt, Zinkenite along with bladed, striated crystals of Andorite matrix. Only a very small number of specimens from this discovery were found on matrix, and even less with Zinkenite AND Andorite together! This piece really has it all from the standpoint of size, quality, rarity and associations. This is a tremendous rarity from this historic and important locality.
