Item Description

Mineral specimens from this obscure underground mine near Tucson are rarely available. The Reward (Vekol) Mine was discovered in 1879 and produced intermittently until 1965. Highly lustrous, Hematite-included (ferroan), rust-red Dolomite rhombs cover the sculptural crust of nearly solid Dolomite. The matrix Dolomites average .5-.7 cm, while the large Dolomite rhomb sitting on top is an outstanding 2 cm in length. This is an excellent and showy specimen from this very uncommon Arizona locale. The hundreds of mm-size, gemmy Calcites add a nice finishing touch.
