Item Description

This is the only specimen that we've had to offer from the Minarets District in Madera County, California, and I couldn't find another crumb of it for comparison online, so it's obviously an incredibly hard to find specimen. The piece comes with an old label from J. Todd Schowalter, which doesn't give any further information about when or where it was found specifically. The piece features altered prismatic tabular crystals of Ferroactinolinte measuring up to 1.0 cm, though there is one unusual-shaped crystal on the back edge of the specimen which is bigger, but I can't tell if it's a single crystal or a composite group, so I'm simply going with the length on the largest single prism . The color underneath is a mossy greenish-grey hue, but the alteration on the surface is a dusty yellow shade. Still a showy group with good aesthetics and minimal damage.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011. There is also a label from mineralogist/collector David Garske, along with a label from IC Minerals.
