Ferro-hornblende ("Barkevikite") (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Ferro-hornblende from an undisclosed locality in San Benito County, Calfornia. A richly, intergrown group of sharp, lustrous, black, prismatic crystals with minor matrix. For reference, the label accompanying this piece mentions the name "Barkevikite" in paranthesis, which is a discredited species and now refers to either Ferroedenite, Hastingsite or Magnesiohastingsite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#5446). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
