Item Description
An incredibly hard to find and superb quality display specimen from the Akchatau Mine in Kazakhstan, which is best known for its outstanding purple Creedites that came out in the 1990s. This is the finest example of Ferberite on Smoky Quartz that I have seen from this locality. It features a BRILLIANTLY lustrous, striated, sharp, somewhat thick, tabular group of Ferberites "blades" measuring 3.8 cm long which is posing neatly along the side of the stout, rich "Morion" color, lustrous, hexagonal prism of Smoky Quartz. The reverse side of the specimen shows a bit of embedded pocket clay and additional smaller Quartz crystals, but the display side is what really matters here. Overall the quality is fantastic, as both the Quartz and the Ferberite are as sharp and lustrous as anything I've seen from Akchatau. The Ferberite has no damage that I can find (with the exception of the base where it was removed from the pocket wall), and the Quartz is nearly pristine, save a few TINY "Wilbers" on the termination. These specimens came and went in a flash almost 30 years ago and you won't find another crumb of them on the market today as nothing like this been available for many years. This piece was priced in our inventory at $2,800 for the superb quality, aesthetics, balance, size and the fact that they are simply impossible to find. This is not a "black rock", it's an excellent quality association specimen the likes of which you will be hard pressed to find these days. If you've always wanted a fantastic display specimen of Ferberite for your collection, don't pass this one up. The piece comes with a dealer label from Heliodor (Brad van Scriver) who personally acquired the piece in Kazakhstan shortly after it was mined.
