Ferberite with Fluorite and Muscovite

Here is a handsome, group of thickly bladed Ferberite crystals from the earlier days of mining at the Yaogangxian Mine in China. There are nearly a dozen, randomly oriented, well-formed crystals from 5 to 9 cm in length that comprise this nearly pristine grouping. The sub-metallic, charcoal black crystals have lustrous, broad and slightly striated prism faces with satin lustered, wedge-shaped terminations. There is a fine Muscovite coating on a few of the crystals along some small, 1 mm Fluorite crystals along with a several pale green, transparent Fluorites at one bottom corner for added interest and aesthetics. Ferberite is a iron tungstate resulting in it's high density and this hefty piece has a mass of 920 grams! Nearly a kilo! The crystals are so sharp, they look machined. This is classic late 1990s material from the most famous mine in China, now vastly lower in production compared to the past years. The quality is superb! Valued $1500-plus.
