Item Description
This is an incredibly hard to find specimen of Ferberite from Shengus, a pegmatite locality in the high mountains of Pakistan best-known for its Spessartine Garnets and Aquamarine crystals. Tungsten species are not what one thinks of when it comes to these type of localities, and I honestly can say that I've never seen one before. The entry on mindat.org states that Ferberite is questionable from this locality, this piece is certainly solid visual evidence that Ferberite crystals have in fact been found at Shengus. With that said, the piece is quite similar in style/habit to other Ferberites you might have seen from Panasqueira, Portugal or the Yaogangxian Mine in China. This miniature sized display piece features several sharp, lustrous, jet-black, bladed crystals, free of matrix. There are some light coatings of an unknown species, probably some kind of pocket clay or possibly feldspar. My favorite aspect of the piece is that it sits beautifully on its own without the aid of a base or clay. It's in fine shape overall, with no major damage, only minor imperfections. If you collect minerals of Pakistan or specimens from pegmatites, this is something that is quite difficult to find on the market, and you're not likely to see another anytime soon, so don't miss out.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#275 PA), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection for the foreseeable future through our various platforms.
