A fantastic, full cabinet size, display specimen featuring tabular, jet-black, striated Ferberite crystals aesthetically flaring out of a crystallized mound of rich golden color Chalcopyrite and bright, lustrous, silvery colored, striated Arsenopyrite prisms. The largest Ferberite crystal measures 5.2 cm in length. There is a small bruise on the back side of the piece, but it does not really detract from the overall appeal of the piece. The specimen comes with a custom base, and is one of the best quality cabinet display specimens of the material that I have offered in the auctions. Valued at $1500-$1800 for the size, quality and aesthetics. Panasqueira produced some of the most impressive and attractive Ferberite specimens extant, and pieces like this remind collectors that it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain fine specimens from this now defunct locality. A dramatic, and hefty display specimen, and a very good looking piece for a "black rock".
