Ferberite on Calcite (found prior to 1914) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A classic, historic specimen from the famous locality at Baia Sprie (Felsobanya) featuring a 9 mm bladed group of jet black Ferberite crystals sitting on golden groups of Calcite sitting on Pyrite matrix. Fine quality, showy and very desirable! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#8243). The label states that the specimen was mined prior to 1914 and comes with a great old hand-written label in German, along with another label from Ernst A. Bottcher of Berlin. Kay's label also references "A. Helke, page 56", which might have a corresponding photo in a book, but I can't figure out which book this might be referencing. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
