Item Description

An incredibly hard to find specimen from the Crevasse Mountain Mine (Jardine; Mineral Hill Mine) in Park County, Montana, featuring a thick crust comprising semi-radial "sprays" of aggregated, dark red-brown crystals (and including free-growing surfaces) of what is labeled as Hübnerite, but Ferberite is only reported from this locality, so we're simply leaving it as Ferberite-Hübnerite Series. I will say that the reddish color is certainly indicative of Hübnerite, but I can't find a confirmed report of the species from this locale. With that said, it's the ONLY specimen we've ever seen from this obscure locality, and if you collect minerals of Montana, this is something that I'll bet you don't have one of these in your collection.
From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #18626CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
