Item Description
This is an impressive display specimen of Ferberite from Bolivia. This species was sometimes previously referred to as "Wolframite", which was supposed to be an intermediary species between Ferberite and Hubnerite but has since been discredited. The piece features several superb, sharp, lustrous, aesthetic, jet-black crystals measuring up to 3.7 cm long forming sitting atop gemmy "needle" Quartz crystals and an unusual spherical aggregate of Marcasite on matrix. Additionally, there is an attractive well-formed twinned crystal of Ferberite on the piece as well. Overall, the specimen is in great shape (only two crystals have any real notable damage), especially compared to the vast majority of specimens which are badly broken. These Bolivian Ferberites are often underrated and stand up well against any other Ferberites from China or Panasqueira. This piece was from the famous find in 1999 at Tasna. Valued at $1250 retail.
