Ferberite (doubly-termianted) with Quartz

The famous contemporary Yaogangxian Mine has provided the mineral world with some of the finest display quality mineral specimens in the last 20 years. Now most people are familiar with the superb Fluorites or even Stannites found at this prolific locality, but Yaogangxian has produced some excellent Ferberites as well. Even though Ferberite is a fairly well-known species, it's not easy to find good quality crystals outside of a few localities around the world. I would say in the last 20 years places like Panaqueira, Portugal and Tasna, Bolivia have produced the best Ferberites on the market, but the Yaogangxian specimens are arguably just as good in terms of size and quality. This is a gorgeous overall specimen featuring a thick layered group of semi-"sword"-shaped crystals of jet-black Ferberite with sharp, lustrous, faces and minor associated Quartz and golden Muscovite. These crystals are large for Ferberite from any world locality, but it's not just the size and quality of this specimen that makes its significant, as the piece is actually completely crystallized all the way around, making it a doubly-terminated, near "floater" specimen. The piece has a few contacts here and there, so it's not a 100% complete floater, but it's still crystallized all over, which is incredibly rare for Ferberite from any locality. A truly impressive specimen of Ferberite that would make a great add to a Chinese suite or a collection of black rocks. Valued at $2,400 in the inventory.
