Item Description
An extremely rare specimen of the hydrated barium iron carbano sorosilicate Fencooperite from the type locality for the species. This mineral was named in 2000 after the California mineral collector, Joseph Fenimore Cooper, Jr. It has only been found in TWO places in the world. This piece features a small dark brown colored patch of Fencooperite which according to the label is associated with Gillespite and Sanbornite. It's best viewed with a microscope or a loupe, but this is often the case for very rare species such as this. If you collect rarities or minerals from the type locality, don't miss out on this one. The piece is from the Paolo Matioli Collection.
