Item Description
Here we have an attractive thumbnail sized crystal of Perthite, which is a variety of Feldspar and defined on mindat.org as, "An intergrowth of albite or oligoclase with a microcline host, occasionally also with a orthoclase host. The intergrowths or exsolution lamellae of the albite are visible as white lines coursing through the K feldspar groundmass. Common in granite pegmatites". This crystal is a fairly sharp, well-formed example with a white/colorless hue. The termination is present, along with on predominant prism face, but the sides and the back are contacted. It's difficult to see from the photos, but the crystal actually shows a bit of gemminess/translucency, which is rarely seen in Feldspar crystals from any locality in San Diego County. A must have specimen for any fan of worldwide Feldspars or minerals from San Diego County. From the collection of Bill Larson of Fallbrook, California. Bill is a well-known gem and mineral dealer as well as a miner and collector. Bill is synonymous with minerals of San Diego County, and owned and operated famous mines such as the Stewart Lithia, the Tourmaline Queen, the Pala Chief and the Himalaya, producing some of the most iconic mineral specimens to come out of the area during the 1970s-1980s. Bill is also known as "Burma Bill" and traveled the world for decades in search of fine gems and minerals, and was directly involved in the in-person acquisition and importation of superb specimens and stones from Myanmar (Burma).
