Item Description
Falcondoite is an exceptionally rare hydrated nickel magnesium silicate, only found in about a half dozen localities worldwide. It was first discovered at the Loma Peguera deposit (part of the Falcondo Mines) in the Dominican Republic. This locality is a serpentinized Harzbergite massif or an obducted ophiolite at a plate collision of oceanic crust with continental crust. The species was named in honor of the Falconbridge Dominica Mining Company in 1976. This piece is a rich example of this highly elusive species, from the type locality featuring a coverage of beautiful blue-green Falcondoite, associated with olive-green Willemseite on matrix. It's incredibly difficult to find any specimens of Falcondoite on the market, not only because of the rarity of the species, but the fact that it's from the Dominican Republic, which has not produced a lot of specimens over the years. Don't miss out, it's the only piece we have to offer from this locality. Ex Colin Manlove Collection.
