Item Description
The Foote Mine in North Carolina is one of the most classic localities on the East Coast. It is well-known for its superb phosphate minerals, and amazing micro material. This specimen is a classic combination featuring a gorgeous, translucent, well-crystallized, group of white bladed Fairfieldite along with a few smaller groups associated with wonderful green and purple bi-colored hexagonal Apatite crystals along with Albite and Quartz on matrix. The main Fairfieldite group measures 3 mm across, and is best seen with magnification, but it is gorgeous up close. The Apatite crystals measure up to 6 mm, and need a bit of backlighting to see the color, but they are as distinctive as it gets from any world locality. A really cool example of this hard to find material from a beloved locale. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4859). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020.
