Item Description

From the type locality for the species, this is a very good example of the rare copper arsenate Euchroite in SHARP condition! Most are lumpy, this is sharp! This "Dana Locality" dates back to the 1800's, and has been a source of some of the most classic eastern European minerals for generations. This piece features numerous, rich emerald-green, euhedral orthorhombic crystals of Euchroite on a gossan matrix. There appears to be microcrystalline Malachite decorating some of this fine thumbnail. A great, colorful rarity from this renowned mining district in Slovakia, these specimens are few and far between on the market. I sold it in the late 1990s while I was in grad school! This was from the collection of Sir Robert Ferguson (1769-1840), which I got into at that time.
