Euchroite (old classic material) (ex Chet Lemanski Collection)

Here we have a rich and hard to find example of the rare copper arsenate, Euchroite from type locality for the species. This "Dana Locality" dates back hundreds of years, and has been a source of some of the most classic eastern European minerals for generations. This piece features rich emerald green, EUHEDRAL, sharp, lustrous, orthorhombic crystals of Euchroite on an oxidized matrix. The crystals clearly formed in a tight seam, so some of them are compressed / distorted, but there are still several excellent well-formed examples that are best seen with magnification. The most impressive aspect of this piece is that the Euchroite crystals are hardly altered, or dull, or pitted, but very smooth, with excellent consistency of color and good luster. These specimens are few and far between on the market, and the top pieces sell well into the thousands of dollars. A great colorful rarity from this renowned mining district in Slovakia. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
