Item Description
A dramatic, heavily etched, thumbnail aquamarine crystal from the White Mountains of California! This extreme 360-degree RARITY is very glassy, colorless to light blue-green and has textbook hexagonal form. MINDAT does not list aquamarine for Mono County, but the famous Champion Mine does have topaz. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 4361 and acquired from Reinhart in the mid-1960s. It comes with an old R.M. Wilke label, dating from 1907 to about 1932. He was a prominent California dealer, who lived from 1962 to 1946. See his biography in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?page=2&colid=552. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). A very rare, perphaps UNIQUE California aquamarine. 21 grams mass. A MUST for the species or California collector!
