Item Description

SPLENDID, two-generation specimen of the cobalt mineral Erythrite, from the heralded Bou Azzer Mine in Morocco. Erythrites are instantly recognizable for their sensational, rich magenta color that is usually enhanced by a superb, glassy luster, as we have here. This large miniature is blessed with numerous books of slender crystals up to 1.6 cm, and these are clustered about near the top of the piece in very attractive, spray-like fashion. As with gypsum, a few of the tips of these very soft crystals are slightly bent, but you would never notice except on close inspection, and they do not detract at all. When the Erythrite is in thin blades, the transparency makes them look like polished, magenta glass just waiting to be incorporated into a Tiffany mosaic. Much of the matrix is covered by mm-size balls of acicular, dusty-rose colored Erythrite. Attractive and interesting on their own, these spheres provide a marvelous contrast in form, and the colors complement each other beautifully. Such great aesthetics and high quality make this a first-rate Bou Azzer specimen. Have not seen many like this, particularly a choice miniature!
