Item Description

Epistilbite is a rare zeolite species, and the dimorph of Goosecreekite. Both are monoclinic, but with notably different habits as Epistilbite is found is tapered, tabular almost "blade"-like crystals, often forming mimetic or pseudo-symmetric twins. While the finest known examples of the species have come from the Deccan Trap in India, this specimen is a fantastic miniatures sized piece of the incredibly hard to find Epistilbites from the Ribas Quarry in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. I've only seen a handful of these in my life, as virtually nothing from the Ribas Quarry is offered for sale on the market. This piece features a group of fine quality, highly lustrous, razor-sharp, GEMMY to translucent, pale golden colored mimetic twinned blades measuring up to 7 mm sitting in a Quartz-lined vug in basalt matrix. If you collect worldwide zeolites, or specifically minerals of Brazil, do not miss out on this great opportunity to pick up something that is seldom seen on the market today. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
