Epidote with Andradite Garnet (ex Gary Weaver Collection)

Item Description

A wonderful association specimen from this former tungsten mine featuring prismatic, dark green crystals of Epidote measuring up to 2.0 cm long associated with rich orange-red colored Andradite Garnet on host rock matrix. The Andradites show a combination of dodecahedral and trapezohedral crystal habits, but my favorite aspect is how LUSTROUS they are. It's hard to show luster in photos, but take my word for it, these are really bright and shiny. Overall the piece is in decent condition, though it's a bit rough around the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. This a great example of this classic skarn material, and virtually impossible to find on the market today since the mine has been closed for decades. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
