Item Description

Here we have an attractive display specimen from the Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan, which is incredibly well-known for its pegmatite minerals (Tourmaline, Spodumene, etc.), but the pieces from Marki Khel are actually from a metamorphic skarn deposit. These particular piece are lesser-known, and drastically different from their Pakistani counterparts. This piece hosts a coverage of sharp, gemmy, lustrous, beautiful olive-green colored crystals of Epidote measuring up to 4 mm associated with small dark red-brown dodecahedral crystals of Andradite Garnet, along with some small "rosette" of grey "Chlorite" on matrix. Most of the crystals are well-terminated and undamaged, but there are some scars on the display side where the piece was separated from the pocket wall. A good sized piece from this somewhat obscure locale in Afghanistan.
