Item Description

An elegant epidote small cabinet combination specimen from one of Europe's most classic locales - Knappenwand. A very aesthetic two-sided parallel-growth cluster of very glassy, lustrous, gemmy to translucent, light olive-green to dark olive-green is strikingly dominated by the 5.4 cm parallel-growth crystal. Sparkly sea-green hair-like byssolite fibers, an Amphibole Supergroup varietal dramatically cascade down both sides of the large epidote termination. Interestingly, only one side of the smaller epidotes hosts more byssolite. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 1632 and acquired from John Albanese in 1960. Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). She recently passed away in 2020. A classic and excellent Knappewand epidote with byssolite. Valued at $400-500
