Item Description
First off, I know that this specimen looks Peruvian, but it was collected by a personal friend of mine who lives in Alaska and travels by helicopter to the Green Monster every summer to collect Epidotes. He recently discovered these unique Epidotes which form in "fan"-shaped crystal groups and sometimes in "jackstraw" groups as well. Those of you visited the "American Treasures" display in Tucson a few years ago, you might have seen a few of these unusual Epidotes on display in the "Green Monster Mountain" case. This piece comprises deep green to pistachio green, lustrous, translucent, thin, prismatic crystals of Epidote in a "fan"-shaped aggregate. It is in good condition overall, despite a contact on the side. A VERY cool U.S. Epidote specimen from what I was told was a one time find.
