Item Description
This piece is a unique and eye-catching thumbnail specimen of the classic Green Monster Epidotes. The piece shows a broad "sword"-shaped termination from the front, but if you turn it around, it's actually hollow in the back. The piece is essentially a "floater" as it's crystallized all the way around, even inside the hollow area. The piece was probably collected very close to the surface as there appears to be a small grass or tree root lodged inside the hollow space on the back. The front of the crystal is very sharp, highly lustrous and shows a rich forest green hue, but shows more of a pistachio green tone on the back / bottom. You don't see a lot of Epidotes like this from any locality, let alone what is probably the premier locality for Epidote in the United States. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10430). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
