Item Description
Epidote specimens from the Twin Lakes locality are virtually impossible to find on the market. I don't think that we've actually had a piece of this material to offer in the auctions prior to this specimen. A handful of notably well-formed, sharp and lustrous Epidote crystals measuring up to 1.5 cm are intergrown to create a lovely thumbnail specimen. The two main crystals are in excellent condition (only a tiny bit of roughness) and they actually pass light when strongly backlit showing their beautiful internal pistachio green color. I particularly like the smooth, broad, distinct crystal faces on the crystals as they are fairly stout considering their smaller size. If you collect thumbnails, minerals of California or Epidote in general, don't miss out on this attractive piece from this obscure locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#13047) with a label from the personal collection of Scott Williams. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
