Item Description
This is only the second specimen of Epidote that we've had to offer from this locality. This piece dates back a few decades and features a somewhat "jackstraw"-esque "spray" of sharp, lustrous, rich olive-green colored prismatic crystals of Epidote measuring up to 3.1 cm long, sitting on minor matrix. The piece is in decent condition, but unfortunately many of the terminations are contacted because the piece clearly grew too big for the pocket, and the terminations didn't have enough space to completely form and crystallize. With that said, the piece displays wonderfully on its own without the aid of a base or clay, and I can say for certain that this is the most aesthetic and showy specimen of this material that we've ever had. If you collect minerals of California, this is an important rare locality specimen that would make a great addition to your collection. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
