Epidote (rare locality specimen)

Item Description

An obscure locality specimen labeled as coming from Upper Elk Creek, in Jefferson County, which is near Turkey Creek Road, south of Evergreen. It's the only specimen of Epidote we've ever seen from this locality, and most likely was found on the surface, as we are not aware of any actual digging or claims in the area. The main body of the specimen has a slight "fan"-shape to its composition, while there are somewhat "jackstraw"-esque groups running perpendicular across the front. The crystals are rather lustrous, with a deep black-green hue, and free of matrix. There are some areas of incomplete growth, but it's largely in good condition, and it's a showy overall example of something that you're not likely to find anywhere else on the market. The piece was originally part of the Lee B. Burnett Collection of Morrison, Colorado (# LB 198).

George (born August 16, 1942) is a well-known mineral collector from Washington, DC and South Carolina respectively, and was a patent lawyer by trade for over 50 years. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the U.S., comprising worldwide specimens, and in later years he sold the worldwide specimens to focus on minerals of the United States, specifically locality suites with an emphasis on amazing representation of species while still maintaining fine quality. The specimens remarkably range from micros to all the way up to large cabinets in size. We recently acquired most of his impressive 9000+ piece collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality specimens for their collections.
