Item Description
Limited epidote finds from Alpine-style clefts at this obscure Namibia locale rival and resemble those of the finest old Knappenwand, Austria specimens. High praise indeed! This is rare and outstanding 360-degree small cabinet piece with classic and desirable herringbone form. The sharp, highly lustrous, terminated large crystals are black and rest on a matrix of gemmy to translucent olive-green epidote crystals. The impressive large crystal is 3.5 cm. A few broken crystals and contacting are noted, but this remains a RARE and striking example of the species and locale. This piece is from the main 1986 find and was formerly in the E.J. Immelman Collection. "Intact groups of sizeable crystals are uncommon due to the intense post-formation tectonics that caused most crystals to break off and lie loose in the fissures." (from the large and excellent 2008 coffee table book "Namibia Minerals and Localities", page 346). Value of such a fine rarity??
