Item Description
This piece is from the 2011 discovery, and I have to say that they might be the most unusual and interesting Epidote crystals from any locality in Pakistan. These pieces came out of Balochistan (where the exciting Brookite and Anatase specimens have been coming out for several years). These pieces do not have the characteristic thin prismatic appearance of those from places like Tormiq or Alchuri, but rather are opaque and often thick / blocky, with a notably darker green hue. This small cabinet sized display specimen features compressed orthorhombic crystals that have both pseudo-hexagonal and pseudo-octahedral forms. The main pseudo-hexagonal has smooth, sharp, lustrous faces, while the pseudo-octahedral crystals have a but more matte luster and a textured appearance on the surface. It in excellent condition, and mostly crystallized all the way around, but there is a small amount of roughness in a few spots. A very good overall specimen of this now difficult to find material. It is clear that this material is no longer being found, and virtually nothing is available on the market now, so pick this one up as these are unique and interesting for the species. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds (#RR0564). Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
