Item Description

From a find in late 2011, these are most unusual and interesting Epidote crystals from Balochistan at the same locality for Brookite and Anatase. These crystals are totally contrary to the more typical prismatic ones from localities like Tormiq and Alchuri, and are are opaque and blocky with a notably darker green hue, and a distinctive secondary coating of what I'm told is Magnetite, as these crystals show a weak magnetism locally when exposed to a magnet. Some people have said they are incomplete replacements after Magnetite, and this crystal sure seems to look like that, although I am not sure any proven replacement has been shown. This tightly parallel intergrown pair of crystals look more like robust pseudo-octahedrons with flat ends with well-developed edges and faces. A very unique Epidote piece from an important find for the species. The replacement situation was clarified by a note from Dr. Robert Downs as follow.: FYI These are not pseudomorphs. They are nicely crystallized epidote that have magnetite inclusions. The magnetite are small octahedra, and they are all through the epidotes. The epidotes may seem to be magnetic, but its actually the magnetites inside of them
