Item Description
Many collectors of Mexican minerals have similar things from similar places and often have very little, if anything, from the Baja State and Peninsula of Mexico, for very good reasons. Not much is found, and it was mostly a long time ago! Superb, textbook-shaped epidote crystals like this were found intermittently by collectors in the 1960s-1980s, including a number of San Diego folks who drove down for field collecting. Most Baja collections I have seen are therefore in the San Diego area, although even those are now old, or gone, and few enough. This is a superb miniature, with sharp form and a deep color (green under strong lighting), from a classic Baja locality. From the Bill Panczner collection (he was curator of the Arizona Desert Museum and author of the still-definitive book MINERALS OF MEXICO (1987).
