Epidote on Quartz

Item Description

An attractive association specimen from this fairly well-known locality in Meigu County, Sichuan, China. The piece hosts attractive "spray"-like groups of highly lustrous, deep green colored Epidote, with individual crystals measuring up to 6 mm long, sitting on a matrix of Quartz which range from GEM quality and colorless to more translucent with a slight Amethystine quality. The largest Quartz crystal is actually doubly-terminated and measures 3.7 cm. A few contacts can be seen on the Quartz crystals, but the piece is largely in really good shape and displays quite well. These specimens started coming out in the early 2000s, but have since dried up and are much harder to find on the market today.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#32 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
