Epidote on Calcite (rare combo for the locality)

Item Description

Here we have a lovely association specimen from the Rosario Mabel claim in the Pampa Blanca District of Peru featuring attractive, very lustrous, prismatic, deep green colored crystals of Epidote - some of which are forming a partial "fan"-shaped group - sitting atop attractive, compressed, tabular, translucent crystals of Calcite ("Blatterspat"). Most of the time, the Epidote crystals from this locality are associated with Quartz, so to find them atop Calcite, and beautifully crystallized Calcite at that, is rare in experience. The largest Epidote measures 3.2 cm long, and the largest Calcite measures 3.7 cm across. A bit of roughness can be seen, so it's not completely pristine, but it's very showy and aesthetic, and certainly would make a great addition to any suite of worldwide Epidotes or minerals from Peru.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#26 P), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
