Epidote (old specimen) (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

From the type locality for the species, here we have a wonderful old historic specimen of Epidote from Bourg d'Oisans, France. Sharp, lustrous, prismatic, pistachio-green colored crystal "sprays" of Epidote measuring up to 1.2 cm are nestled among Quartz crystals with a reddish-pink hue (most likely from iron inclusions). The piece is in great shape overall, and historic specimens of this classic old material are rarely seen for sale these days. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12953) with an old label from "Mineralien Niederlage zu Freiberg". Please note that the original label states that the piece is from Dauphine, but there is no report of Epidote from that area that I can find. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
