Item Description

These are true classics from this famous mine which is most well known for its impressive Epidote and Quartz association specimens. This cabinet sized piece features deep green, sharp, blocky Epidote crystals with good form and luster which are associated with "Uralite", which are pseudomorphs of an amphibole (Actinolite) after a pyroxene (Diopside / Augite). I see less and less of this material on the market every year, and specimens like this are certainly hard to find now. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with one of the famous 3x5 index cards from Wulff. An historic and eye-catching specimen from this iron mine in Colorado.
