Item Description
This is a beautiful classic crystal of these world-famous Epidote crystals from the classic locality at the Knappenwand in Austria. Although the Knappenwand is not the type locality for Epidote, it is almost certainly the locality most associated with the species historically. This piece features a very lustrous, sharp, well-formed, prismatic crystal of Epidote free of matrix. The crystal is gemmy inside when backlit, and because Epidote is pleochroic, it shows different colors when viewed on different axes, and this piece features a slight mix of green and gold hues when rotated in the light. We tried to show the color change in the photo as best we could, but it's better in person. The piece is in excellent condition, and the only major damage is on the base where it detached from the pocket wall. A fantastic overall specimen of this beloved material from Austria.
Ex Colin Manlove collection.
